Clijster, a legend???

Seriously, two grand slam win DOES NOT make a Legend! What was Citizen watch thinking? They better hope she wins the upcoming US Open. Then their "legend" will look more like a legend.

Ma Sha is overrated

Maria Sharapova is the highest paid female athlete. Ugh! It is so obvious that her good looks carried her as oppose to her actual tennis skills. Yeah sure she won 3 grand slams but there are plenty of other women in tennis who has won a lot more than her! If Serena or Venus were white blond and statuesque, they would have a lot more endorsement cause they are a lot more talented as a tennis players. That Maria Sharapova is way OVER-RATED!

Billy did it for me.

As I sat in the opulent hall of the Oriental Theatre with my 5 coworkers to watch Billy Elliot (the musical), my heart was full of anticipation and trepidation that I may not like this. I saw the movie version and I liked it. The story moved me and I was thoroughly entertained. So I really wanted to like the musical version and also because I have heard so much good things about it from my friends. I did not want it to suffer the same fate that Wicked (the musical) suffered in my humble opinion. A fate that did not live up to my much elevated expectations.

The show started slow with the first three songs and I was screaming "OH NO" in my mind but as soon as they did the first 20 seconds of the fourth song "solidarity", I was hooked. The way the song was done with the juxtaposition of the strike and the ballet (pronounced as bali in the show) scene was brilliant. Although I must add at this point that having watched the movie made me appreciate this song more. And this observation carried through the rest of the show. I do not think I would have understood and held the show in high esteem if I have not watched the movie. And I might also add that the different key point scenes in the movies were transformed nicely into the abridged version of the musical. After the "solidarity " song, it was all uphill for me. I cried so much specially on the scenes where Billy was reading his mom's letter and remembering her. The closing dance number, that was totally a gratuitous number to exhibit their proficiency in dancing, was much applauded by all.

Our Billy was Cesar Corrales. He portrayed Billy quite well and his semblance of the Northern England country accent passed my keen ears. In fact all the major actors who portrayed the major roles delivered an effortless Northern English accent. Our Billy also danced fabulously in my opinion, although I can not claim to be an astute judge of what is fabulous dancing and what is mediocre. But I must say I found no fault at all in his ballet and tap dancing. Even his delivery of the song "electricity" lived up to the high expectation I have after seeing different performances of it from TV and the internet.

We sat in the first center row of the the nose bleed section so I was not able to see much of the faces of the actors. Even with this handicap, the show was able to keep me riveted. In fact I almost want to watch it again with a much closer seat so I may see their faces better!

Billy, you did it for me. Thanks!

Annoying grunts in tennis

THE MORE NATURAL GRUNT.

THE VERY NOISY AND ANNOYING VERSION.

So why does she grunt so loud in some match? Makes one think that she is doing it to annoy her opponent as a mind game strategy. How low...

Turning off comments

As I have blogged earlier, I am plagued by comments from China that are spam in nature. Of course since I filter all comments before they get posted, nobody gets to see these spam comments on my blog entries but me. So I have decided to turn off all comments for about a month or so just to foil their attempts to post spam comments on my blog entries. Hopefully that will eventually make them give up their futile disgusting efforts.

My Cichlids

I have been fascinated by the beautiful colors of the cichlids lately. Specially the African Cichlids. So I set up a new tank with just cichlids. Here are all of them.

The work out bra double standard.

For centuries, women were on the loosing end of double standard when it comes to covering body parts. Even to these days, some women in some part of the world have to cover their whole body while men are allowed to expose their arm, head, neck and legs. Often times the double standard comes from societal standard on what is considered acceptable. Any body can expose certain body parts in public as long as it does not violate any law on public indecency but society frowns on these behavior. So most of us conform to what society expects and cover up certain body parts.

In recent years, I have noticed a double standard that favors the women when it comes to covering body parts. And this double standard exist only in the modern urban gym. I am talking about women wearing a sport work out bra like top with their midsection exposed. Somehow it is considered acceptable for women to do this but gym management might protest if men expose their midsection during a workout. Somehow society deems it acceptable for women to wear bra during a work out but men have to cover their whole trunk.

Also, some bars will allow women to enter with sleeveless tops while men have to have sleeves. Somehow a sleeveless man is considered uncouth while a sleeveless woman is not.

Piolo's better voice in Babe I love you.

"Babe I love you" is a movie from the Philippines with the theme song of the same title rendered by Piolo Pascual. I have never thought Piolo to have a good singing voice. I have always found his voice to be very nasal. But when I heard him sing this song, I was quite pleasantly surprised. It almost sounded good to me. Hear for your self.
