The French Open UPs & DOWNs

Let's start with the DOWNs of this year's French Open. The lost of Venus in the third round was a bummer. The lost of Serena to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals was another dissapointment. Even in the women's double the William sister lost in the third round. Almost unheard of cause those two are superb as a team. And lastly, the Bryan Brothers lost in the semifinals of the Men's doubles event too! On the women's finals, Svetlana Kuznetsova outplayed Dinara Safina. I was indifferent to that really but congrat Svetlana. I wonder if she is a lesbian. She reminds me so much of the great Martina Navratilova. hhhmmm...

On the UP side, the victory of mix doubles team Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber was something to smile about after the DOWNs. Too bad Mike could not celebrate with his brother Bob for the Men's double title. But since they share the same bank account, he is very happy for both of them.

The victory of Roger Federer over Robin Soderling just hours ago at the Men's Finals of this year's French Open was definitely the ultimate UP for me. Besides Andy Roddick, Roger is the only man I wanted to win. The brilliance of The Fed showed itself again today. He has won 14 grand slams and only the 6th man to have completed a career slam. He has been in the finals 15 out of the last 16grand slam events. He has been in a grand slam finals for 19 times total. Truly the best tennis player ever! Some say the win is not as sweet cause he did not beat his nemesis Rafael Nadal. For me the victory was won fair and well deserved. It was not as if Rafa was not in the tournament due to illness or death. Soderling demolished Rafa and in return Roger demolished Soderling. So who is to say that had Rafa survived Soderling, he won't be beaten by Roger. In fact Roger had beaten Rafa at the Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid just before the French Open. Well done indeed Roger. Well done Robin. I am still smiling.
