Snow White and the 7 Drag Queens

Tonight I saw with my friends a show from Midtangent Production for the second time. The first one was thoroughly entertaining and this second show proved to be just as diverting. The title is "Snow White and the 7 drag queens". It is written and directed by Tony Lewis. Shown at the Hydrate Nightclub. It stars my friend Cecilia/Madame X/Edman. I tell you it was hilarious, campy and just a whirlwind of delight. The story line follows that of the Disney Snow White story. But instead of 7 dwarfs, you got 7 drag queens all aptly named Grumpy Hangover, Happy Rosebud, Bashful Bubbles, Sneezy Maxipad, Sleepy Pillowtalk, Dopey Dupree and Doc. Instead of the evil queen, you got an evil landlord Millificent DuVille. Millificent has a magic hand mirror that told her that one of the Drag queen will surpass her beauty as the most fierce drag queen in boystown. So she got back at them by increasing the rent. Of course the drag queens can't afford the rent so they placed an ad for another roommate. Enters Snow White in their lives. But she can't afford the rent too so she instead offered her services to beautify the drag queens so they can make more money at the Gay nightclubs where they work. Of course Snow White was able to transform all the drag queens to these fabulous creatures. Then the magic hand mirror told Millificent of the threat so she disguised herself as an Avon lady and gave Snow White a poison ruby lipstick. Snow White drops dead and came the Harry Prince to kiss her back to life. He got poisoned too and drops dead. So the magic hand mirror told the drag queens that if enough people believe in drag queens, both of them will live. Audience participated in proclaiming "we believe in drag queens" so the prince and Snow White came back to life. Happy ending ensues.

Some of the actors actually sang their own songs from popular tunes but the lyrics were changed to be more gay and Chicago relevant. In particular Snow White had a good singing voice and she even did tap and ballet numbers. Madame X of course sang her own song too and as usual it did not disappoint. The other drag queens lip synch to Britney, Pussy Cat doll, Cher, Fergie and Madonna songs. It was all very appropriate to the story and comical. And for only $10, I could not ask for more.
