Per Peeve - Fan wannabe

The word "fan" as in Chicago Bulls fan came from the word "fanatic". Dictionary.com defines a fan as an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc.

So it ruffles me a little when somebody labels themselves as a cubs fan, bear fan or XXX fan when they are not really. How can one be a fan of a team when they do not even know when that team is playing most of the time? How can one be a fan when they don't even watch the game or follow the score of the team? How can one be a fan when they don't own a team shirt or hardly use their solitary team shirt? How can one be a fan if they will only watch the game when that team is actually winning or in the finals? At best, they are just a hometown supporter or joining a bandwagon. A fan they are NOT!
